The basics of HDBase-T

HDBase-T is one of the new players in the ever growing field of HDMI transmission options. HDBase-T 5PLAY technology can deliver High Definition Video, Multi-Channel Audio, 100 Base-T Ethernet, IR and RS232 up to 100 meters (330ft) over a single Cat5e or Cat6 cable.

HDBaseT delivers Full HD/3D and 2K/4K uncompressed video as a point-to-point connection, daisy chain or matrix switching. The HD-BaseT format requires a Transmit device at the signal source and a Receive device on the display end of the cable. As HDBase-T continues to emerge the hope is that manufacturers will incorporate the HDBase-T chipset directly into their products, eliminating the need for separate transmit/receive devices and their accompanying HDMI cables, allowing a single Cat5e/6 cable to be plugged directly from source to display.

The HDBase-T system supports uncompressed video signals up to 10.2Gbps and is HDCP compliant. HDBaseT can deliver various types of control signals RS232/USB, IR, and CEC for remote operation equipment when located in a different room. HDBase-T will support ethernet up to 100Mbps. The technology is based on standard ethernet architecture and allows the installer to use existing Cat5e / Cat6 network wiring.
